BESTEK 400 W car inverter with 30 W USB-C review

A 400 W car inverter with a 30 W USB-C PD port and a QC 3.0 USB-A port beside two AC outlets, ETL certified, for $29.98.

The USB-C upgrade

BESTEK’s 400 W car inverter adds what its 300 W sibling lacks: a USB-C port with 30 W Power Delivery and a QC 3.0 USB-A port. Beside them sit two 110 V AC outlets. Like the 300 W model, it has a 40 A fuse and protection against overheating, voltage faults and short circuits, and it is ETL certified.

About that 400 W

BESTEK says the AC outlets can handle 300 to 400 W devices such as laptops and breast pumps. Through a cigarette plug, a typical 15 or 20 A circuit supplies about 180 to 240 W at 12 V. The rating describes the inverter, not what the car socket can feed it.

What it gets right, and what it leaves out

Strengths

  • A 30 W USB-C PD port, the fastest USB charging among the car inverters here
  • ETL certified, from a long-standing inverter brand
  • Only $3 more than BESTEK’s 300 W model

Compromises

  • 400 W is far beyond what a 15 A cigarette socket supplies
  • Modified sine wave
  • Weight and dimensions are not in the bullets

Questions owners ask about this one

Will it power 400 W from my car socket?

Not from a typical socket fused at 15 or 20 A, which caps out around 180 to 240 W. BESTEK says the AC outlets handle 300 to 400 W devices; that needs a socket and wiring rated for it.

Can it charge a laptop over USB-C?

At up to 30 W through USB-C PD, which suits phones, tablets and small laptops. Larger laptops charge faster from their own adapter on the AC outlet.

Is it safe for a breast pump or a CPAP?

BESTEK names breast pumps and similar devices. It is a modified sine wave unit; check the device maker’s guidance on inverters.

Our score

8.3/ 10

BESTEK’s newer car inverter, worth choosing for its 30 W USB-C port. Its 400 W headline is a rating the car socket will not let you use.
