The best car power inverters for 2026

Six inverters that plug into a vehicle’s 12 V accessory socket and give 110 V AC plus USB. Ratings run from 150 W (FOVAL, PiSFAU) to 400 W (BESTEK, Pro Chaser). The figure that decides what they can actually do is not on any of them: most accessory sockets are fused at 15 or 20 A, which at 12 V is about 180 to 240 W before the inverter’s own losses. The 150 W units fit inside that; a 400 W rating needs a direct battery connection to be used in full. Beyond that, the choice is about ports and build: BESTEK’s 400 W has a 30 W USB-C PD port, PiSFAU’s 200 W has six outputs in an insulated shell, Pro Chaser a 30 in cord. BESTEK’s units are ETL certified. All six produce a modified sine wave, fine for laptop and phone chargers, less so for some CPAPs and audio gear. The FOVAL and PiSFAU 150 W share nearly identical model numbers. Prices were read on Amazon.com on November 2, 2026.

Car power inverters and who each one is for

Laptop on a road trip
BESTEK 300 W or 400 W; the 400 W’s USB-C may make the AC outlet unnecessary.
Family car
PiSFAU 200 W with six outlets.
Glovebox spare
PiSFAU or FOVAL 150 W, under $17.

The trade-offs of car power inverters

Rating against socket
A 400 W inverter behind a 15 A socket delivers what a 150 W one does.
Modified sine wave
Cheap and compact; the sine-wave inverters on this site suit sensitive devices.
Metal against ABS
Aluminum cases (BESTEK, FOVAL) shed heat; PiSFAU’s ABS shell is fully insulated.

What keeps coming up about car power inverters

Can I run a 400 W device from the socket?

Usually not. At 15 or 20 A, a socket supplies about 180 to 240 W at 12 V.

Will it drain my battery?

With the engine off, yes. Run high loads with the engine running.

Is modified sine wave safe for my laptop?

Laptop and phone chargers generally accept it.

Can I use it in a Tesla?

BESTEK says its 300 W model accepts 11–17 V for Tesla compatibility.

What protects the car?

The vehicle’s socket fuse; BESTEK adds a 40 A fuse in the inverter.

Why are two models nearly identical?

FOVAL MT-MX 150W-3 and PiSFAU MT-MX150W appear to share a base design.

In short, on car power inverters

Match the inverter to the socket. FOVAL or PiSFAU 150 W for a standard socket, BESTEK for certification and USB-C, a sine-wave inverter wired to the battery for anything bigger.
