A hybrid inverter does three jobs at once: it tracks the panels, it charges and discharges a battery, and it decides at every moment whether the house draws from the sun, from the battery or from the grid. That decision logic is the product. Continuous output and surge output read as on any inverter, with the surge only meaningful alongside its duration. The solar side publishes an MPPT voltage range and a maximum input current per tracker, and a string designed outside that range either clips or refuses. The battery side publishes the nominal voltages it supports — 24 V and 48 V dominate — and, more importantly, the communication protocol it speaks: a battery that cannot tell the inverter its state of charge is managed by voltage alone, which is cruder and shortens its life. Transfer time in milliseconds says what happens to a computer when the grid drops; below a certain figure the load never notices, above it a desktop reboots. Efficiency is published as a peak percentage and, on the better listings, as a European weighted average that reflects a real day rather than a best moment.
