USB panels that charge a phone in the sun, and store nothing · review
ELECOM NESTOUT 28 W solar panel review
A 28 W four-panel charger with SunPower Maxeon cells, a current checker and built-in stands, in ripstop nylon. Award-winning design, USB-A only, $129.99.
ELECOM’s NESTOUT series won an iF Design Gold Award, and the 28 W panel shows why: SunPower Maxeon cells, a ripstop nylon bag with pouches, two built-in adjustable stands and an LED current checker. It folds to about 30 × 20 × 5 cm and weighs 771 g.
The outputs
Two USB-A ports, and no USB-C. That is the main practical gap against the BigBlue and Ecosonique panels, which offer USB-C at the same or lower prices. A USB-A to USB-C cable solves it, at standard 5 V charging rates.
The stands
No other USB charger on this shelf can stand at an angle by itself. On a beach or a campsite without anything to lean it against, that is worth something.

Our score
8.1/ 10
A beautifully made 28 W panel with Maxeon cells and stands. Its USB-A-only outputs and its price make it a design choice more than a value one.
