UPG UB121000 Group 30H review

A UL-recognized 12 V 100 Ah Group 30H AGM battery from a US company, mountable upside down, at 60 lb and $197.15. Mind its mixed-up wiring advice.

A UL-recognized battery from a US company

Universal Power Group’s UB121000 is a 12 V 100 Ah sealed AGM battery in a Group 30H case. UPG stresses that it is a US-based company with US support, and that the battery is UL recognized. It can be mounted in any orientation, including upside down, and is rated for float, cyclic and everyday use.

A wiring error in the listing

One bullet says the battery can be wired in parallel to create 24, 36, 48 and 60 V banks, or in series to create 200, 300 and 400 Ah banks. That is backwards. Series connection adds voltages; parallel connection adds capacity. Follow the physics, not the bullet.

What is not published

No discharge current, no temperature range and no cycle figure. Renogy publishes all three for a battery of similar size.

12.17 × 6.61 × 9.16 in and 60 lb.

What it gets right, and what it leaves out

Strengths

  • A US-based company with US customer support
  • Can be installed upside down
  • Rated for float as well as cyclic use, so it suits backup duty

Compromises

  • The listing reverses series and parallel: series raises voltage, parallel raises amp-hours
  • A one-year warranty
  • No discharge current or temperature range in the bullets

Questions owners ask about this one

How do I build a 24 V bank?

Wire two batteries in series: the voltages add. The listing says “parallel” for this, which is wrong. Parallel wiring keeps 12 V and adds amp-hours.

Can it stay on a float charger?

Yes. UPG says it is engineered for float, cyclic and everyday use, which suits a UPS or an alarm backup.

How heavy is it?

60 lb, at 12.17 × 6.61 × 9.16 in.

Our score

8.0/ 10

A solid, UL-recognized Group 30H AGM battery from a US company. Ignore its wiring bullet, which has series and parallel the wrong way round.
