UPLUS LDC12-100M Group 27 review

A 12 V 100 Ah lead-carbon AGM battery rated for 80% depth of discharge, with charging and discharge limits in amps, at 60 lb and $171.46.

More of the capacity, usable

UPLUS rates its LDC12-100M for an 80% depth of discharge and says that does not shorten its cycle life, where it puts ordinary AGM batteries at a 50% limit. If that holds, 80 Ah of the 100 Ah is usable, against about 50 Ah from a conventional AGM battery.

Numbers you can design with

The listing gives the charge limit, 0.25C or 25 A, which fills it in about five hours, and the discharge limits, 45 A continuous and 710 A for five seconds. Few lead-acid listings publish both. At 45 A, continuous output is about 540 W at 12 V, which suits a small inverter, a fridge and lights.

Temperature and storage

Discharge works from -4 to 131 °F. Self-discharge is under 3% a month.

Size and support

Group 27, 12.05 × 6.61 × 8.19 in, 60 lb. UPLUS gives a two-year warranty and says it has offices and warehouses in California and Georgia.

What it gets right, and what it leaves out

Strengths

  • An 80% depth-of-discharge rating, where ordinary AGM is limited to 50%, per the maker
  • Charge and discharge limits stated in amps: 25 A in, 45 A continuous out
  • US offices and a two-year warranty

Compromises

  • 45 A continuous is about 540 W at 12 V, too little for a large inverter
  • Only 25 ratings at the time of reading
  • The title calls it a “leisure battery”, a British term, but it is the same deep-cycle battery

Questions owners ask about this one

What is lead-carbon?

UPLUS describes thick absorbent glass mat separators with superior lead-carbon AGM chemistry and a gel electrolyte. It claims a service life twice that of ordinary AGM and an 80% usable depth of discharge.

What charger do I need?

UPLUS says to charge at 0.25C at most: a 12 V, 25 A AGM charger for this 100 Ah battery, which fills it in about five hours.

How much power can it deliver?

45 A continuous, about 540 W at 12 V, and 710 A for five seconds.

Our score

8.0/ 10

A lead-carbon AGM battery that can be drained to 80% and publishes its charge and discharge limits. Good engineering data; modest continuous current.
