It tests cables, and only cables

Tests cables. Internal pin connections. Resistance values. Basic USB functions — charging, data transfer, high-speed signalling. And USB-C E-marker chips.

Both ends of the cable go into the tester. It never sits between a charger and a device, which is what a power meter does.

Why that is still useful

A drawer of USB-C cables is a drawer of identical black objects that do wildly different things. One carries sixty watts, one carries two hundred and forty, one carries no data at all, and nothing on the outside says which.

The E-marker chip inside says which, and this reads it.

The interfaces

What it does not do
