An Anderson-style connector is the genderless housing found on leisure batteries, solar bags and vehicle sockets: two identical halves that slide together, with a flat contact inside that carries the current. The current rating belongs to the housing size — the common sizes step from around fifty amps to several hundred — and the colour is a coding convention that prevents a 12 V lead being plugged into a 24 V one, since housings of different colours in the same family will mate mechanically but are meant not to be. The contact is sold separately in some listings and is sized for a cable range; a contact crimped onto a cable outside that range is the usual failure. Mating cycles are published because these are designed to be unplugged often, unlike a ring terminal.
