A micro-inverter sits behind one or two panels and turns their direct current into mains alternating current on the spot, instead of sending everything to a single large inverter. The advantage is written into its architecture: with independent MPPT channels, a panel in shade drops only its own output, where a string wired through one tracker drags its neighbours down with it. Rated output in watts is the cap, and in several markets it is also the legal limit for a plug-in installation, which is why so many units on this shelf are rated at the same figure. Each input publishes a maximum panel wattage and a voltage window; panels above the window are refused, panels below it waste the channel. Grid standards are not decoration here — an inverter has to be certified for the grid it is plugged into, and the norms differ between countries; the certification a maker lists is a specification like any other.
