Three cases in this family. The other two say splash-protected and water-repellent — descriptions. This one gives the rating, and on a product whose purpose is keeping weather off an expensive machine, that is the difference between a claim and a specification.

The flaps

Hook-and-loop covers over the port area, so the station can be charged and used without removing the cover.

That is the design decision that makes the rest work. A cover that has to come off to plug something in comes off on the first wet afternoon and stays off. Flaps mean the protection is still there while the station is doing its job.

The feet

Rubberised, keeping the station off wet ground. Small, and it is where water actually reaches a box sitting outside.
