The caps

Permanently attached to the plug and the coupling. Not supplied loose — attached.

That sounds trivial until you have lost a set. A Type 2 plug spends its life on a garage floor or in a boot, and its contacts collect grit and road salt. A cap tethered to the cable is the one still doing its job after a winter.

The lengths

5 m, 10 m, 15 m. The only cable in this family offered at fifteen, and that length is bought for the public bay that is laid out badly rather than for the drive at home.

The standard

IEC 62196-2, cited. All seven cables in this family cite it — it defines the Type 2 connector, and it is what makes a cable compatible with VW, BMW, Mercedes, Tesla, Hyundai and the rest.

What it does not define is the cable behind the connector.
