Usually low voltage at the inverter rather than an empty battery: a starting surge, a thin or long cable, or a loose terminal drops the input below the cut-off for an instant. The alarm reports the symptom, and the cable is where the cause normally is.
An inverter that trips instantly is reporting something specific, and the error it shows is rarely the thing to fix.
The measurement that separates the causes
Voltage at the battery and voltage at the inverter, taken together, under load. If both sag equally, the battery or its state of charge is the subject. If the inverter sees much less than the battery does, everything between them is — cable cross-section, run length, crimps, the fuse holder, the isolator.
Why it happens at the instant of switch-on
A motor draws its heaviest current before it turns. That spike multiplies the voltage drop along the cable, and the inverter’s low-voltage cut-off responds in milliseconds. A battery showing a comfortable resting voltage is no defence against this.
The joints nobody suspects
A terminal that is tight but oxidised, a crimp that grips insulation rather than copper, a blade fuse holder warm to the touch: each adds resistance in a place no meter is pointed at. Heat at a connection is the visible sign, and it is worth checking before anything is replaced.

The battery management system’s own current limit, and the inverter’s temperature protection. Both produce the same outward behaviour, both are documented in their manuals, and both are cheaper to check than to replace.
