Stäubli

MC4 is Stäubli’s designation, and it became the common noun for the type. That is why the standards page on this site warns about “MC4 compatible”: connectors that look identical can differ in the contact spring, and the current rating assumes a matched pair.

This is the only product in this catalogue fitted with original Stäubli connectors and saying so. On a roof where the panels carry Stäubli leads, that removes the question entirely.

The service life, with its condition

Up to 25 years at 90 °C, or 20 000 hours at up to 120 °C, to EN 50618. A life figure without a temperature is not a figure; this publishes both.

The length

Ten metres a side. The longest in this family and the usual distance from a roof to a controller.

The gap that matters at this length

Voltage drop. Over ten metres of 6 mm² carrying a string current it is a real number, and it is not published — here or on any lead in this family.
