Group sizes

27, 49, 93, and others up to 385 mm long. That is how a battery is specified in a catalogue — a group number carries its dimensions and its terminal layout with it.

The other five boxes in this family quote amp-hours. A hundred amp-hours of flooded lead-acid and a hundred amp-hours of lithium are not the same shape, and the number tells you nothing about the fit.

The divider

Adjustable from 50 to 330 mm. A battery shorter than the box slides, and a sliding battery chafes its own cables and loosens its own terminals. This takes up the slack.

The material, with its resistances

Polypropylene: acid-resistant, UV-resistant, heat-resistant. All three named individually rather than as “weatherproof”.

And it is stated to collect acid — a flooded battery on its side leaks, and the box is the thing that decides whether that reaches the hull.

What is not stated
