Why LiFePO4 rather than other lithium

Lithium iron phosphate gives up some energy density in exchange for thermal stability and cycle life. It tolerates being left partly charged, delivers most of its rated capacity rather than a fraction, and survives several times as many cycles as lead-acid.

In a vehicle or a cabin, those three things matter more than weight per watt-hour.

What a large capacity actually buys

Usable depth. A lead-acid bank is conventionally taken to half its rating before damage starts; a LiFePO4 bank goes far deeper. Two batteries with the same printed amp-hours can differ by a factor of two in what you can actually take out.

What the pages mark
