Petrol generators and inverter backup

Two machines that burn fuel to make electricity, from the same family of designs.

Why inverter generators are different

A conventional generator makes its frequency from engine speed, so the engine runs at a fixed speed whatever the load. An inverter generator rectifies and re-synthesises, which lets the engine slow down when little is being drawn.

That means less noise, less fuel and a cleaner waveform — which is what makes a laptop or a fridge safe to plug in.

What these listings publish

Output figures with both a continuous and a starting value, which is the honest pairing for anything driving a motor.

Fuel capacity and run time where they appear; the individual pages say where they do not.

What always has to come from the manual

Oil specification and service intervals. A generator is an engine, and the figures that keep it alive are in its own manual rather than on a product page.

And one thing no generator listing here addresses

Where the exhaust goes. That is a separate purchase, and this catalogue has a shelf for it.

A price quoted in the text of a PowerVerdict page dates from the day that page was written; the live figure beside each product is fetched while you read and replaces it.
