Panels, converters and SAE connections

The connector is the interesting decision in this range.

SAE

The car solar charger kit uses SAE quick connectors: a two-pin polarised plug that pulls apart. The ring-terminal cable bolts to the battery once and stays there; the panel plugs in and unplugs without anyone going near a terminal again.

For a caravan or a boat where the panel comes off every time the vehicle moves, that is the part of the design that gets used most.

Both cables supplied

SAE to crocodile clips for clipping on, SAE to ring terminals for a permanent connection. Either mode works out of the box rather than after a second purchase.

The rest of the range

A 200 W folding panel and a 2000 W voltage converter, both read on their own pages.

The trade on the charger

PWM rather than MPPT regulation — simpler and cheaper, and it loses a fraction of the harvest in weak light. Fifty watts is also charging rather than maintenance, which is a different purchase from a trickle panel.

    • Fifty watts, double the smallest panel in this family
    • SAE connectors, so the panel detaches without touching the battery connection
    • PWM rather than MPPT, where the VEVOR charger here uses MPPT for less money

Best for: A caravan or boat where the panel comes off and goes back regularly.
